Moody Blvd., in Bunnell.  The Flagler County Board of County Commissioners will proclaim the month of March 2024 to be American Association of University Women Month in Flagler County at the beginning of its regularly scheduled meeting.

Friday, March 22 – Reading Women – 3:00 pm at the Flagler County Public Library, 2500 Palm Coast Pkwy, NW in Palm Coast.  We will participate in the Flagler County Public Library’s annual Flagler Reads Together program with the presentation, ‘An Afternoon with the Rabbi.’  Join Rabbi Merrill Shapiro for an enlightening discussion on the rich history of Judaism and the profound lessons learned from the Holocaust. This thought-provoking event promises to shed light on important historical narratives and foster understanding and empathy.

  • General Meeting – 11:00 am at Cypress Knoll Golf and Country Club, 53 Easthampton Blvd., Palm Coast.  Speaker – Floyd Phillips from the Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center, St. Augustine and Commissioner for the Gullah Geechee Historical Corridor.  He will talk about the Gullah Geechee people who descended from enslaved Africans from specific tribal groups in West Central Africa, (of present-day Angola) and Kizzi. The Gullah Geechee who lived on plantations from coastal North Carolina to Northeast Florida developed their own patois, hybrid religious beliefs, folklore and arts and spoke their own words in their own patterns and songs. Wednesday, March 15 – Just for Fun Event – Recognition of Equal Pay Day Join us from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at JT’s Seafood Shack, 5524 N. Oceanshore Blvd, Palm Coast for an “UnHappy Hour” to mark Equal Pay Day 2023.  This symbolic day denotes how far into the year women must work to be paid what men were paid the previous year.  Equal Pay Day 2023 represents the current state of the gender pay gap:  84% for full-time workers and 77% for all workers (including part-time and seasonal.)  Susie Baird is our host for this event.  Be sure to wear red to show how far in the “RED” women’s pay is.

Wednesday, March 22 – Reading Women – 2:45 – 4:30 at the Flagler County Public Library, 2500 Palm Coast Parkway NW, Palm Coast.  The group will participate in the discussion of Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng, the book selected by the Flagler County Public Library for its annual Flagler Reads Together event.  Contact Susie Baird if you would like to attend.

Sunday, March 26 – Fundraiser at European Village Farmer’s Market – 12:00 to 4:00 pm at 101 Palm Harbor Parkway.  Save your yard sale items.  We need miscellaneous household items such as plants, books and jewelry to sell.  Volunteers are also needed to work the sale.

Thursday, March 30 – Daytona State College Women’s History Month Luncheon – The Advisory Board of the Falcon Hope Center (which was called the Women’s Center and later The Center for Women and Men) voted this year to honor AAUW at this annual event.  More information to follow.
